Selecting the right LED Strip Lights
1.OUTLINE YOUR GOALS
Start by considering how you plan to use the LED strip lights:
- What do you want to light?
- Where do you plan to use them?
- Do you need dimmable lights or remote control features?
- What color LED strip are you interested in?
- Are there other lights in the area?
2.COMPARE KEY SPECIFICATIONS
- Brightness: Measure in lumens for white strips and millicandelas for colored strips. Remember, the highest brightness isn’t always necessary. Consider a brighter option with a dimmer for more control.
- Color Temperature (CCT): From warm white (2000K – 3000K) to blue-white light, color temperature affects the mood and functionality of your space.
- Color Rendering Index (CRI): A CRI close to 100 means colors look as natural under the light as they do in sunlight.
3. LED CONFIGURATION AND CONTROL
- Tunable White LED Strips: Adjust color temperature from warm to cool white to suit changing moods and activities.
- RGB LED Strips: Combine red, green, and blue LEDs for vibrant displays. White light may have a purple hue.
- RGB+W LED Strips: Include separate white LEDs for more natural white light and better color blending.
- Addressable/Digital LED Strips: Each LED is individually controllable for detailed, custom lighting effects.
4. PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Strip Size and LED Density:Knowing the total number of LEDs and the length of the strip helps in comparing prices and understanding quality.
- Energy Consumption: Check the wattage per foot, meter, or reel. Ensure the power supply matches the strip’s voltage requirements to avoid hazards.
5. QUALITY AND DURABILITY
- Thermal Management:Inquire about heat dissipation methods used, as heat significantly impacts the lifespan of LED strips.
- Certifications and Testing: Look for UL, ETL listings, and RoHS compliance to ensure safety and quality. 6. Continuous Support Ask for Test Results: Ensure the color accuracy and longevity of the LEDs through test reports like LM80, LM-79, and IES.
